Baby Tyson-a family's struggle

Sometimes life is not always easy, and everything we planned on and dreamed of, changes. On August 17, a very dear friend of mine had her first child. He was a healthy, beautiful baby boy and as you can imagine the parents beamed over their new bundle of joy. Things quickly took a turn for the worse and their perfect little world quickly crumbled. Seventeen hours after baby Tyson's birth, during a routine exam, he started to turn blue. The doctors decided he needed to be taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for further examination. There, at Vanderbilt, under the care of many of the best children doctors and surgeons, he was diagnosed with Shone's Complex - meaning this sweet little baby would have to undergo several open heart surgeries until the age of 2. Tyson is now 3 weeks old and has already had several surgeries. He has already had many complications in his short little life, but Tyson has fought every step of the way. My heart breaks for my close friends and all they are going through.

I wish I could say all the areas are always tidy and clean, but that is a no go 95% of the time. Between cutting, sanding, finishing, and wrapping things don't stay clean for long.

So friends, this past weekend I turned 27. When I was little I never ever would have pictured owning a business that challenged are rewarded me day after day. I never ever would have pictured that life would sort of feel like it was just beginning. Getting to feel the hope and excitement that something big is coming and noticing that something big is happening even right now while the "complete" picture is forming is the biggest gift and blessing of all. I'm thankful for it and thankful for all of you for helping it happen.

Over the weekend the hubster and I took a little trip to the highest point in West Virginia, Spruce Knob. By the time we made it to the top of the Mountain it started to rain. We were lucky that it only lasted a few minutes. It ended up being a beautiful day. Here is a little video of our adventure.

These past few weeks have been a doozy! I feel like I have been working on a hundred different projects at once. Oh, wait! That's exactly what I have been doing. I've been busy experimenting with new designs - launching our summer line, filling orders + wholesale orders, updating the website, working on jewelry for product photography, and designing some Chantelle Nicole Design birthday celebration emails. Oh and working on a brand new website. Which is so exciting and all of you are going to love!

On top of all of this it is absolutely beautiful out and all I can think of is taking a vacation. Is it as hard for you to stay focused with the beautiful sunny weather outside?

Scary, I know!

The whole left hand wall will be taken out and redone. There is an old fireplace lurking behind the wall and we need more space. So bye bye century old fireplace!

It's a little hard to imagine using my awful photographs, but the plans will look something like this.

We already have decided on the cabinets (off-white), sink (farm house), & backsplash (some kind of subway tile), floor (wood), appliances ( super excited about the commercial style stove), faucet (bridge faucet).

Still to be decided are countertops (has to be white with grey veining), island countertop ( butchers block), & lighting fixtures. Any suggestions on those are appreciated.

Here is our inspiration board for the kitchen so you can see what we are going for.

WE'RE HOMEOWNERS!!!

I didn't want to say anything outright until we had this shiny little key in our hands...and now we do! We own a house! An adorable, totally-perfect-for-us house!

We're so excited to make it our home and truly settle in somewhere for the first time. And we can paint! And plant stuff! And build stuff! And it will all be for us! Woah man, I can't even believe it!

This 100+ year old house needs some serious TLC. So you can bet there will be more talk of renovations, decor, and homey stuff now. I hope to also share some diy projects as we will certainly be taking on some in the future. I look forward to sharing our home with you more as we grow into it and make it our own!

But now...time to get down and dirty demoing the house!

This is jake. he’s a English Cocker Spaniel who was rescued by a girl named anna from the San Diego Humane Society . Sadly, jake has mast cell cancer, and although this is a common cancer for dogs, its aggressive and can be dangerous, so he needs surgery. Bridal Shower

Today, I thought I would share a bridal shower I hosted about a year ago for a dear friend. All the ideas came from the color combination we chose, fuchsia and tangerine. I really wanted something that had alot of spirit. We decided to make paper flower centerpieces and pomanders to hang from the tent ceiling. This was a great alternative to to real flowers, but was a major pain in the rear. We then bought some gerber daisies to scatter around. Everything involved in this shower was pretty much DIY. This helped give a huge impact with out the huge price tag. Even the cupcakes were lovingly made by me and the maid of honor.

I love spring! It's so energizing and refreshing after the long cold winter.

Spring Strawberries!

It's almost that time of year where strawberries are so abundant and fresh that there is nothing better than a huge bowl of these to nosh on. I found the while perusing flicker. Head on over to cannelle-vanille where there are several yummy strawberry recipes. Her blog is wonderful and there are so many great pictures of food I am salivating even thinking of it.

I hope all of you had a wonderful easter weekend. It was really a beautiful weekend here. It was so nice to get out and soak up some sunshine. On Saturday my husband and I made a trip into the city for some light shopping. I loved the abundance of stores to choose from, but of course I hit up Anthropologie first. If any of you shop here you know it's completely impossible to walk out with out buying one thing. I walked out with this..

I also found this amazing leather couch at Restoration Hardware. It is one of those deep seated couches that

makes you feel like a little kid. Love to have it, but way out of my price range at this point in my life.

We ended the beautiful weekend with a mouthwatering meal of salmon tartar and peanut chili bbq chicken.

Both recipes came from Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill Cookbook.

Cement vs Carrara Marble

These first two images are of carrara marble countertops that I have recently fell in love with. The downside is the unbelievably high priced.

This morning when I saw a post on the subject on little green notebook. I just new I had to share this idea with you.

Using cement countertops instead of the marble. I for one don't mind cement countertops, but it's not something I am usually drawn to until I saw this.

I never thought in a million years you could get the same effect with cement as you would marble. If I did this in my own home I would want the color to be more white and less grey. What are your thoughts on cement countertops?

If you have never come across ArtMind you have been missing out. This specific line is her Bunny Art Collection. You can choose between 9 very cute bunnies. Their little bunny ceramic ears are so cute.

She also has another creative line called the 99 feelings project. She's creating 99 separate sculptures that reflect different emotions. They each start with this simple "babushka" shape that she then adds to, takes away from and creates texture with. I think they're really lovely and would look great in a collection together.

Lately painted stairs have become all the rage. At first I wasn't so sure about the whole idea , but it has really grown on me. The last picture is actually wall decals. I think it's a great way to do something fun with out it being permanent. I hope to do something fun like this in my own house. Speaking of own house. We are putting an offer on a home today. I'm really excited about the prospect of having something I can change and add my own personality in. Being married to an architect also helps. He helps me see how things could look with a little TLC. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed today about getting this house. Hopefully I will have good news Monday to share, along with some pictures of the house.

a new day

Today is a new day for me. I've come to the conclusion that I need to become more healthy and sitting on my ass is not going to help me accomplish that. So starting today I'm going to do my best to eat right and exercise. It helps that I will not be doing it alone. My husband and dear friend Meg have inspired me to jump on the bandwagon. There is this great site my food diary that allows you to input all your food and exercise. It does all the hard work of calculating your calorie intake and what you need to eat to lose weight or maintain your weight. For me I need to lose. Do you know when you get to the point you are just disgusted by yourself. Yes, I'm there and only I can do something to change it. My biggest problem that I will have in changing my life style is the exercising. It is so unbelievable boring for me. I have extreme ADD and exercising only keeps my attention for about 15 min. I require exercising that doesn't feel like exercising because it is so fun. So if any of you have any ideas on how to burn calories while enjoying yourself. I am all ears.

Resource. DIY Flower Headband

What you will need:

1. Fabric

2. Cheesecloth

3. Needle and thread

4. Ribbon measured to the circumference of you head

1. the first thing you need to do is trace and cut a flower from your fabric.

Cutting the flowers different shapes on the end will give it a different effect.

2. I cut out 5 flowers and stacked them alternating the petals as I went around.

3. Next fold the stack of flowers in half

4. then fold the flower in half again. You may have to work with the fabric a little

to get it how you want it.

5. While keeping the bottom pinched sew back and forth until the flower holds shape

6. Cut out 4 petals in the shape above. Form a tiny flower with the petals and sew them together.

7. Once that is done sew the small flower petals in the middle of the larger flower.

8. Take a small piece of cheesecloth to make the tiny flower next to the larger flower by repeating the above steps.

9. once your flowers are done place them on the ribbon and sew them to it. Pretty simple!

10. You will end up with a whimsical headband that is fraction of the cost of what you find online and in the stores.

My next favorite place for spring fashion is Anthropologie. What I love about this store is the majority of there clothes can be worn year round and because alot of there clothing are staple pieces one thing can be worn several different ways. Now if i only have a few hundred dollars to go shopping.

It has been so beautiful here the past few days all I can think about is spring. I really can't what to wear strappy sandals and fun dresses (my staple all spring and summer long). So today I decided I would share some of my must haves from two of my favorite stores. First up is Urban Outfitters. I love their clothes! I really dig clothes that have a nice vintage vibe but, still are fresh and feminine. Plus, their clothing is priced very affordably. My only complaint is the waif thin models they use. It's so hard to tell what it would look like on a normal average sized women. With out delay here are my spring faves from Urban Outfitters.

I have a thing for stationary. Whether it be thank you cards or a beautifully thought out wedding stationary set.

This wedding stationary is by Sarah of Parrott Design Studio and after seeing it I want to have a wedding all over again. I love how elegant it is and how the color combination keeps it modern and fun. Sarah also has an etsy shop where she sells Post and Press. Post and Press is a monthly delivery of one letterpress card complete with a kraft envelope & vintage postage stamps. I really love this idea and think people should take more time to write each other simple notes. I think it means so much more then an email or a text. Plus the fact that it comes with vintage stamps gives the little note a sweet vintage feel.

I can't count how many times a day I look on the internet and find something that I love. I just have to have it....then I look at the price and think " *%^$, why me". Everything that I'm drawn to is ridiculously expensive. There have been more then a few times I have justified spending an ungodly amount on something but, more times then not, I pass it up and sulk about it for days. I really truly believe leave I was suppose to be born an heir to some throne. Everything about me screams it. Is it just me or do many of you believe and do the same things?

Do you know the site bag borrow and steel. It's a pretty amazing concept you get to rent a designer bag. What bags you choose depends on what you choose your monthly membership to be. It's a pretty fantastic idea. Well now there's Rent the Runway a new site where you can rent a dress by a top-tier designer, for a piddling 10% of what the dress costs. That amounts to $50-200--which implies some pretty fancy duds.

The logistics are simple: You browse their collection of dresses, pick one out, and it's delivered to you the next day in not one, but two sizes. (New Yorkers can get a dress, same day.) Afterwards, you drop it back in the prepaid package, and mail it back.

Fractional ownership has actually been sort of the rage recently--ranging from super- high end vacation homes to super cars to handbags. But this isn't ownership--it's simply rental. It's pretty amazing. I suggest you go sign up right away because unfortunately, there is a waiting list.

Resource. DIY Ruffled Envelope Mailers

These envelopes are pretty easy to make and everything you

need to make them can be found around your house

what you will need:

~ Scrap fabric

~ Scissors

~ brown wrapping paper or lunch bag

~ thread

~ sewing machine or needle

This part will depend on what size you want you envelope to be. For our purposes we will make it 6x8"

1. cut your paper 6" wide by 38" long

2. Fold it in half length wise ( it should look like the above picture)

3. You now want to fold it again so the first fold is at the top.

Leaving a 1" section at the top ( this section should have two flaps)

4. Now we are going to sew the flaps together. Pretty simple.

Just sew about a 1/4" in width wise so that the two flaps are now connected

5. Now to add the ruffle. Cut a scrape piece of fabric 1.5" wide. The length will be dependent on how much ruffles you want (so you may need to add more as you go).

6. we are going to sew the fabric on the same side as the flap is on but, on the opposite end . (Make sure you sew it with the paper unfolded or you will sew the two pieces together and decrease the inside envelope size)

7. to start sewing the fabric you want to bunch it up like a ruffle on one end. Begin sewing...as the sewing machine goes keep feeding bunched fabric underneath it. Sew right down the middle and in a few minutes walla, a pretty ruffle.

8. Sew up the other to long sides. Keep ruffle flat when sewing over it.

9. Now you have a cute envelope. Stuff it will goodies and fold over flap and seal.

10. Send it to the person you love and not only will they have fun getting the goodies inside they will have a pretty package to open.

The other day I ran across jadite kate on etsy. I have officially found a new obsession.

This vintage glass was manufactured in the 1900's by several different companies. Its beautiful green color and durability makes it great for every day use. Even Martha Stewart created her own line of this beautiful glassware.

There are all kinds of different kitchen ware in jadite. You name it you can pretty much find it. I plan of getting a few pieces to use and display. I have a vintage china cabinet that was my great great grandmothers that the jadite would look so great in. I also want to add some pieces in my kitchen. I've come across some great canisters that I would love to have.

I love collecting things especially things that have a history. Do you have any collections? I would love to hear about them!
